I feel I should explain my reason for occupying this space. I always loved making things when I was younger; getting the sense of satisfaction that comes from having produced something aesthetically pleasing or of use (hopefully both!). I grew up watching the women in my family knitting, sewing, embroidering, wielding a crochet hook ... For a time my aunt owned a fabric shop and I remember the huge bolts of fabric, whose scraps are still circulating in various forms. The background prints to mine and my cousin's childhoods.
However, although I'm not sure exactly how and when, at some point other things took over and I stopped being 'crafty'. I think it may have been prompted by a sense of embarrassment or of feeling isolated in my interest within my peer group.
The breakthrough came one day last year when idly surfing the net. Stumbling on one website led to another and another (most of which are in the list to the left). Inspiration, a plethora of other people interested in making things by hand, a challenge ... I dusted off my sewing machine and crochet hooks and haven't stopped. If only my full-time job didn't get in the way!
My hope is that bee handmade will motivate me to continue and improve as well as allow me to share creations and inspirations.
