I loved making things when I was a child. My mum and dad unearthed a box of 'keepsakes' that I'd stashed away and one of the things in it was a little felt mouse. I'm definitely a hoarder and very sentimental about things from childhood or belonging to family.
It's a bit sad and deflated and is missing one eye. I think one of the cats probably decided that they liked the look of it. Anyway, they are really easy to make and ideal for children (old enough to handle a needle obviously). I thought I would put together a little tutorial.
1. Cut out 3 pieces of felt.
2. Sew them together (I used two strands of embroidery thread).
3. This creates a little pouch.
4. Before sewing the pouch up fill with rice or whatever you prefer. I used quinoa because it's small.
5. Plait some strands of embroidery thread to make a mouse tail.
6. Secure onto the end of the mouse body when sewing up the pouch.
7. Cut out some felt to make ears.
8. Fold each ear in half and secure the base with thread.
9. Sew onto mouse body. Then overstitch a nose onto the front.
9. Select some beads.
10. Glue or stitch into place to make eyes.
Voila, a little felt mouse. Ovbiously you can vary the size, materials used, filling etc. An easy little project for children to get used to sewing.
